PS3 and FLAC

Posted by: Flame on 14 March 2009

Hi guys;

I'm trying to get my toes in the digital audio waters so bare with me please. I've downloaded DJ Tiesto's latest Album in FLAC format. Can I play it on my PS3? How? If not, then what do u guys suggest in order to play the file in a similar high resolution form on the PS3? Thanks

I strongly suggest installing the PS3 media server on your computer. Download it from google labs at:

http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/

and enjoy. It will transcode and stream FLAC to your PS3, as well OGG, and DivX and MKV videos. It's available for Mac, Windows and Linux.

Hi guys;

Sorry for being late posting my findings as I've been busy with work. Just started using the PS3 media server (really less than 30 minutes). I'm having the problem of the file (audio or video) tripping every few seconds while playing. I have good network coverage and have maximized the buffer size on the PC. Any suggestions/solutions/comments regarding the matter?

As for quality, I'm pretty impressed with how the FLAC file sounded. Even though it is through my relatively simple NAD T753's DAC, I think the sound outperforms regular CD off my CD5i. Haven't done a formal test, but I'm going to rip a few CDs on my PC and stream them to the PS3 to see how that compares. If anybody can give feedback regarding the above mentioned problem I'd be very thankful.
