Second thoughts about PowerLine?????????
Posted by: Consciousmess on 27 January 2009
Hi I had to start this is a new thread as I have just listened to a couple of CDs, which I havent played since I upgraded with a Powerline on my SC2, driving the 252.
The CD was Piper at Gates of Dawn, and the treble in some parts appeared too bright, almost like a shriek. I'm possibly thinking that the PowerLine is allowing excessive amounts of treble through the 252??
Is that a fair hypothesis?
I was originally thinking of going out this weekend and ordering two more PowerLines, but would doing so make this worse or even it up???
It can't be my speakers, surely (B&W Nautilus 803s)???
I'm curious as to any of your comments!!
Many thanks,
Jon

latest iteration. now this one is sounding bloody good so far. looks like the cable used matters -- a LOT, but i knew that anyway, so i dont know why it took me so long to get to here... still need to neaten a few things, but hey there are other things to do... yes?
... and the remnant of a Naim mains lead -- sacrilege!!
now, would i do that to a powerline? naaah... not if a Naim pucka power block is coming soon.
enjoy

I'm impressed with your wizardry, Ken!!
I bet you have a gorgeous sound now, and I must add this.......
Ive chosen to order a couple more Powerlines so that I have my full system using Naims best leads. I was amazed at what using just one PL did, so that made me realise that there was still a lot to offer from my current mains!!
I've also read on other forums that getting a separate spur made up for one's audio equipment brings significant improvement. For that reason I think I'll enquire as if that costs about the same as another Powerline, it will be money well spent!!!
I'll update the forum on my impressions once my other two PL arrive!
(This may appear ironic, as I also was the one who started this thread!)
Regards,
Jon

Hi Jon,
I beg your pardon but you are in debt of an answer (for us who have read this thread from start on). What is your present view on your 1 (one) piece of PL included into your present system, still independent from others’ views?

wizardry? easy now...
yes, slept early this morning 0300hrs. now i am trying to decide whether the vastly improved performance is because of my hand made power blocks, or naim's powerlines. tough init?

"play me factor" -- very high. "sing along factor" -- very high. "lingering tunes factor" - extremely high. to say nothing about increased emotion, etc...

i cant remember what your mains arrangement is, but if you have enough sockets, AND they sounded good before powerline, then prepare to be amazed even more

Get a sparks to trunk it.
If you get a fire in your place you will get nothing from your Insurance company.
Sorry to put a downer on your hard work.

Yeah, aspecially since the other end uses one of those adaptors that plugs into the light socket when the bulb is removed - remember them?
Cheers

Thanks for the question, Graphoman!
To answer, and independent of other posts on this topic, my reason for doing ahead and buying two more Powerlines was because of the amount of difference I heard with just one. I have to recommend to you to get a PL for your SC if you are getting the 252.
I have to admit, that when I was driving down to the dealer to pick up the 252 (which I part exchanged the 282 for), I decided that I'd buy a PL for it as well. I am happy I have done this and feel the sound has settled down. Maybe its my perception?
Nonetheless, I thought I'd max out the mains input to my Naim items to make sure the 'bed' is made for when I upgrade to a 555PS later in the year. I'm also considering getting a separate mains spur made for my system, but I've posted a question on another thread to get some forum feedback on this.
I hope your system is sounding good and I repeat myself... get the 252!
Regards,
Jon

Plenty of positive feedback there.
