Using 4 monoblocs anyone?

I'm currently using a Crimson pre amp with two monoblocs.

I've seen an advert where I can buy two more of the monoblocs at a good discout (ex-dem) and I was wonderring if anyone here has tried this?

I assume its possible to use one mono one each channel to drive the bass and another to drive the hi range?

If this is possible then (a) is it worth doing and (b) how do you connect the additional two to the pre amp? It has only one set of outputs so could I use a splitter/adapter?

Thanks guys.

4 Mono Blocks

With Naim its simple.

Most would buy an ACTIVE X-OVER, such as the SNAXO, which filters the frequencies before feeding them into the power amps. The power amps then amplify only their own part of the frequency spectrum and drive the treble and the mid/bass separately. Of course, the speakers need to have their passive X-overs by-passed. Not everyone likes such an ACTIVE system.

Others would feed each of the power-amps from the pre-amp/preamp power supply then drive the speakers through their own, internal, passive X-overs which would need to have the treble and mid/bass separated. Fewer people seem to like this type of BI-AMPING than like the above active system.

So, is it worth doing?

Well, first, i'm not sure what's actually involved in making either system work with Crimson, so it might be very expensive or perhaps not even possible. Naim kit (IMHO) always seems to sound better in normal passive mode, on a pound-for-pound basis, but others would prefer the avtive sound.

Will you like the sound?......??????

Cheers

I had hoped I could just use a y-cable (two phono to 4) from the preamp outputs to each of the four monoblocs. Then take each of the monoblocs to the hi/lo speaker ports. Basically bi-amping each speaker?

Is it necessary to fiddle with the crossovers.

Are Crimson still in business?
I would contact them or the dealer who is selling the amps to get their views on passive bi-amping.
I ran an NVA amp set up like this,it was a big upgrade over a single pair of monoblocks.
My pre-amp was fitted with 3 pairs of output's for tri-amping,but the spliter method you describe would work just fine.
