Going to work will be fun...

Hi!

Just connected the small black box that will be the base of my new office sistem: a Nait 2 that I just bought s/h after having it recapped.

Plugged in my iPod (source first, huh...) and connected my old AR M1 speakers.

WOW!!! That´s the most powerful 2 x 15 watts I ever heard. If you can find a Nait 2, BUY IT! Going back to work tomorrow will be FUN!

We have played with the iPod a little and it's really not bad at all. The new AAC codec is a significant improvement over standard MP3. You should get it if you haven't already done so.

We are considering an ipod into a Tivoli radio as the bedroom/garden system.

Regards,
Frank.

I can only agree with you Thomas! The little Nait-2 sounds much more powerfull than it's 15watt would suggest.
Although I wouldn't need a Nait-2 based system at the office. Far too good imho. Normally I work there, instead of listening to music SmileWink
(a portable radio would do fine)

Frank: I´m getting a white Tivoli PAL to go cordless with my 20GB (old style) iPod.

Alco: Hmmmm... You are right, it may be a bit overkill, but I didn´t really think that it would sound like this. Still a bit blewn away by the sound of that little beast.

This may be a bold statement and it´s judged on only 20 minutes of listening, but it felt like it will give my Series 5 kit at home a good run for the money...

Hi Thomas,

A couple of months ago I got a call from a friend, who's also into Naim. He was very enthousiastic on the phone that moment, about a system he heard at another friends house, so he said:"Alco, you HAVE to listen to a system I heard today" So we did...
The guy moved to Spain the other week, but boy, whas I glad that I had the chance to listen to that system before the man left Holland.

I entered the room, and when I looked around at the minimalistic interior/acoustics, I expected the worst, but I was wrong.
I listened to a Meridian 506.20 CD-player(modified!) hooked up to a NAIT-2!, and some big, chunky DIY speakers, with Scanspeak units.
(round 91db) Total system costs, between 2800 and 3000 UKP.

It was the best system I've ever heard, regardless of price!
(or at least as far as my memory goes Big Grin)
We just sat there... speechless, staring at eachother, rasing our eyebrows saying:"can you believe this ?,...this can't be true"
(it really happened that way!)

At that moment I had a NAC82,NAP180,CDX system myself, with some Diapason speakers, but it didn't even come close to that Nait-2 based system in terms of openness, dynamics(!), detail, speed. I never expected this.

So, I guess it's all a matter of system matching Smile

I bet if you moved that exact system into your room you'd be dissapointed.

The room has a huge part to play in whether you get an incredible sound, or something ... very not!

cheers, Martin

Martin,

Exactly. This thought occurs to me every 5 nanoseconds as I read the threads on this forum. You can't compare two systems if they are in different rooms. I hated NBL's until I got some home, now I think they are the bollocks. Now I hate DBL's ..

Does that mean you want to hear DBL's at home??

You're absolutely right Martin! My room/acoustics are pretty miserable.
I've heard many great speakers sounding wonderful on the end of my Nait-2, but as soon as I borrowed some of those speakers to demo at home, the results were quite dissapointing.

Ritche mate ! Where you been ?

Everyone has their own Emerald city. When Dorothy said "there's no place like home" she wasn't talking about room acoustics.

As I am already in major trouble for daring to suggest that "Norma" Jones can't hold a tune I had better not open my mouth any further.

Alco,

You are right!

Do you have a PSU for the 82?

Sorry Alco, I had this sentence in mind.

Hi Emil,
Not a HiCap, but a NAPSC was connected to the NAC82.

Alco

In your case there is a big limitation for both the 82 and the 180. If you can borrow a hi-cap to try it home you'll notice the difference. In your system the balance and PRaT will come with a supercap. It realy make sence to stretch to a s/h SC.

See also Two Hi-Caps? thread which is running now.

I've got a 30GB Ipod into a pair of these as my bedroom system.
