don't want to be negative, but since most here endorse what music/groups/artists/bands etc that we should be listening too as great music, what about those that we dislike and why.............
Queen has come up a few times on recent threads as just being bad music. Full stop. Having once heard their greatest hits cd, I can see (hear) why............

For me it would be, 'The hold steady', Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens. I just cannot see the appeal of any of them.

I am probably going to sound a bit old fashioned, but "there is no bad music, and no good music. Only music which resonates with us as individuals." To paraphrase Rossini...
Therefore it is incorrect and a not factual to describe the musical output of Queen as bad music.
If any of us dislike this or that composer or performing group that is our own problem and not a comment on the quality of the music per se.
I do think it is possible to criticise certain music on the grounds of quality, but I would think that the minimum academic qualification for doing this would be a Mus. Doc. at one of the leading Music Schools or Universities. I know several such people, and even these people are loath to get into dismantling a piece of music as bad in an academic sense, if it gives pleasure to others!

PS: I believe there is quite a difference in the case of not understanding music, but that is a positive thing. Either you try harder to understand it, or choose listening which you understand and love better. So the "Don't Get" Thread, currently running, avoids such a hint of negativity for negativity's sake. What possible value for others here would it be if I posted about the music I most disliked. I could do it in a second, but will refrain as no good can come from it! I have erred in response to questions in the past one perhaps one or tow occasions in the last four years, but all I would say now is, "No comment!"

Everybody knows which artist I detest and if you don't detest him too then you should.
Probably best to accentuate the positive though.
