jay,
It's quite surprising how musicians will have staggeringly expensive (to non musicians) instruments and yet when it comes to listening to music have rather ordinary systems. I think you'll find that when listening they are more able to construct the, for want of a better word, tune from less information than non musicians.
have you joined the Nuno fan club ?
Peter
Nuno fan club? Wasn't aware of such a thing, so I doubt I've joined.
It just struck me as interesting that a layperson (musically speaking) would find fault with bass reproduction that seems to satisfy a trained musician who listens to real bass every day for a living.
I think all of the responses to my post have raised valid points: it may be a relative thing, as leeto suggests; Peter's point about trained ears being more adept at zero-filling the missing data is also a good point. I would add to these that Tony Levin listens to his Ikemi in an all-Linn context; Steven listened to an Ikemi in his (presumably not all-Linn) system, so may not have heard it perform at its best.
When all's said and done, Tony Levin seems happy with his system, Steven Toy seems happy with his... considering how different tastes run, I think it's cool that there's equipment out there that's just right for everyone.

Hi chaps !
Few weeks ago my CD5 was wipe the floor with Ikemi.
I really can't understand why people put in a same basket Naim and Linn.
Naim is much more different than Linn.
They are many companies which sounds like Linn, but noone sounds like Naim.
Having all Naim system except source, which is from Linn, must be punished and listening Sonus Faber with Naim is also an idiotism.

The Densen amps come pretty close, and a mutual friend of ours with a red sports car stated upon hearing my sistem last July that it would be right up your alley...
It's that tune thing - i.e: lots of different tunes playing together, and in time with one another which is an attribute of all-Linn sistems I've heard at my local Linn dealer.
It would seem that Linn stuff works great with other Linn stuff, but not if you mix it with other gear.
I've got my colours nailed to too many masts, methinks...
Regards,
Steve.
