Odeon Cinema rip-off
Posted by: Rasher on 29 October 2006
Special offer on a large Coke & popcorn at Odeon cinemas - 71p off - Now only £6.49.
It's a £u**ing disgrace. Boycott this place in future.
Bottle of water - £2.60
Small bag of popcorn - £3.60
I know, I know - don't buy it - but explain it to the kids and it just makes you feel bad - it works on emotional blackmail.

Rasher,
Whats all this Popcorn, Coke and stuff? You're spoiling em!
Bloodyhell...I was lucky to be given a small bag of "Sugar Puff's" to take when I was a lad.
Beano Sherbet Dip Dab, or, Kailia (spelling), Mojo's, Refresher's, Love Heart's.

I couldn't agree more. We rarely visit the cinama, prefering instead to wait a few months and buy the DVD.
If we do go, we always sneek a few snacks in for the kids. I'm buggered if we're paying those prices.

The most I'll ever buy is an ice-cream - and even they are a bit expensive at the cinema. But I will not buy popcorn.
I believe the prices are connected to the fact that the distributors of the films take the box office proceeds. The cinema operators have to gouge cash out of the patrons any way they can.

A trip to the cinema can be very expensive nower days. The best one I went to was in Pinewood Studios to see the second part of Lord of the Rings.
That was swanky and you could buy beer as well.

We're lucky in Durham that ours is a little indie cinema and prices are reasonable. That is pure scandal - are they run by people who run Service Stations on the nations roads?

They are all as bad. A recent trip to london we thought of going to cinema in Liecester Square. £12.50 each I told them I only wanted to use the seats for a couple of hours not buy them outright.
For £25 I could buy 3 or 4 DVDs.
They will be putting a stop to that during the "security" search no doubt.

Yeah, it isn't unusual to be searched for sweets & drinks as you go in. The answer is just to not go - or fill the children up before we go anywhere close.

I quite enjoy a trip to the cinema once in a while - nice night out.

Support your local independent cinema-if you've still got one.

another thing that bugs me is the 'booking fee' when you buy your tickets on line. You save them money on box office staff, you can't choose particular seats and they still charge you more. I make a point of going to the cinema in person in advance to buy the tickets.

What do you expect, most cinemas in the UK are owned by American companies and they serve up a load of propaganda served up as dross. I agree with Bruce - support your independent cinema while you still have them.
