Yes. I have one on my P9 and it is very good value IMHO. I've never used anything else.

p9/exact much better sound in my setup than cdx. greater separation, depth. not so good at frequency extremes.

Gari,

The Exact sounds fabulous in my [admittedly all Rega] system. I started out using a P25 but it was not until it was mounted on my P9 that it started to sound something like. It seems to have been given a mixed reception all round but I think at 250 quid it's a steal.

"not so good at frequency extremes."

The ones I've heard (both on RB900/P9 decks) did high frequencies but were harsh. The dealers I've talked to about the P9 all said, "Don't demo it with the Exect - you will miss out on what a great deck the P9 is."

It may be OK VFM, but the word here is the P9 needs/deserves a better cart.

I've always failed to understand why the Rega cartridges get such bad press amonst the cognoscenti.

I haven't heard the Exact, but I've heard all the rest (outside of the 78 anyway) and find them to be very lively performers (a bit too lively in the case of the Bias I'd admit).

Mike Sae sold me his old Elys for next to naught a couple of years back warning me that it sounded crap compared to his old A&R Cambridge P77 (or was it crap period?).

Upon receiving it the tip proved to have a good baked on coating of Mike's vinyl, however, post cleaning it sounded great on my lowely Planar 2 in the secondary system (I didn't bother listening to it prior to letting the AT637 have at it for a good while).

I'd definitely take an AT95E over the Bias but the rest are more than decent performers IMO.

It does! I should have said that the midrange is fabulous. The bass isn't as deep as I have heard and the treble can sound a little harsh at times. It is still much better than the CDX.

I could put a better cartridge on the p9. I have never felt the urge as I am quite happy with what it has to offer. I'm not in the market to upgrade at the moment. I'll buy some more records.

Greg. I deserve a better cartridge! All donations will be considered!

Craig. I have always enjoyed rega cartridges, cd players, amps and speakers. Best VFM hi-fi available IMHO.

Oops! I forgot to paste the quote!

[That's weird. Your P9 should absolutely trounce pretty much any CD player in existance in just about every respect.

if you have your LP12/Ittok in mind, my understanding of the Rega carts is they won't work in Linn arms.

That aside, the exact is rather good. I heard one for a short listen the other day and found it rather agile... been a long time since I heard a serious MM cart.

Rico, I am considering my set up as the klyde is nearing the end of its useful life.

I don't know about the rega at all.

In that case, mate - try getting the Klyde rebuilt. Either a Linn exchange, or the (near universally praised) Expert Stylus.

That will also save you the trouble of changing phono boards.
