Unitiserve - clunky interface

Posted by: PBenny1066 on 13 December 2010

Just a post to vent frustration at the iterface of my unitiserve. No issues with the sound quality, but the interface is just not up to scratch :

- a few CD's fail to rip at all, no error messsage, just eject without ripping. All proper CDs, not copies. iTunes manages no problem.

- a couple of CDs rip but artist nor album are recognised. No big problem...just rename them using the interface (web in my case). After 90 minutes I haven't managed to rename 2 albums and have given up.

Question for Naim HQ - presumably you realise that you are now in the computer business. In a sense you have been for years already, with digital music. But now the interface is your own. So my question is - what are you doing to ensure that your interfaces match up to the very high benchmark set by your audio quality ?

Cheers, Paul

We have been here before - great product (silly price IMHO) in hardware terms - software interface needs work. I'm not going to mention Vortexbox because I may get lynched.

The world of computers is brutal - witness the fall of RIM / NOKIA / Microsoft(Phones for now) and Naim have strayed in as an engineering company with a good line in embedded software. The fact they are using OS4 as a control platform may be a sign there is hope but they must work on their control software.

Paul - I'd recommend you write directly to Naim and let them know details of the problem CDs, they may be aware of the issue, but even if they are not it will help them to help you. I'm sure they'll get it right soon, but this area is new.

I still use an Apple computer for digital music and am thinking of the Vortex - however, if anybody can create a low jitter digital out for the Naim DAC then I know it'll be Naim.
