Did anyone listen to Jan Garbarek on BBC Radio 3?

I wondered if anyone listened to the broadcast of Jan Garbarek's recent Barbican concert on Radio 3 last night.

Really good pianist in the quartet but I guess that when you have played with Keith Jarrett it raises the bar.

The pianist is Rainer Bruninghaus and he is superb. He has been with Garbarek for many years now. He has also done a couple of solo albums on ECM that are worth checking out although not so easy to track down these days.

I was at this show.

Your're quite right Lontano. I didn't do him justice in my original post. He is superb! His solo during the first set was stunning.

No, I missed that one but Jan Garbarek is one artist I would really like to see live. I have quite a few of his albums now and they are amongst my favourites in the ever increasing ECM/Jazz collection.

I've not used the iplayer before so here's the ideal opportunity! I'll give it a go when I get a decent internet connection at home. Thanks for the info.

Tried to listen but as usual failed to get it. Sorry it just sounds like noise most of the time. Frown I don't think my ears are tuned to wind instruments.

I now realise the first numbers were his early work, the piece that finished around 34 mins was OK (ish). Smile

OK stayed until about 54 minutes and then the pianist did a small kid in the music room impersonation, stopped, onto something else.

Rainer Bruninghaus was also with Eberhard Weber's Colours. Yellow Fields, Silent Feet and Little Movements are all worth checking out, and I think are still available at a reasonable price as a set of 3.

Three fantastic albums! Bruninghaus is brilliant, and he also appears on The Colours of Chloe, the earlier Weber album from which the group name was taken, as well on several other Weber albums, too.

One Garbarek album with Bruninghaus not to miss is I Took Up the Runes.

All best,
Fred

"and he also appears on The Colours of Chloe"

how could I forget! It was the first Weber record I heard, and such memorable cover art as well.
