The guitar legend Les Paul has passed on at the age of 94.
He gave us much to be very grateful for in modern music.

Oh man this is sad news. On recent programmes he looked like he could go on for ever. NoAlthough not a great fan of his music, his product has enthralled for many years.
RIP Les and thanks.

I am glad I took the opportunity to see him play when I had the chance back in the early 1990s. Rest easy.

He's been around as long as I've listened to music, as far as I can remember.
RIP Les.

Sad news. My very first guitar was a Les Paul copy back in 1981.

You beat me by a year Chillkram Mine was in '82 a Les Paul copy in sunburst, up until then it was a nylon strung classical just to learn from Les's books.
I think Les inspired more Guitar players than we will ever know.

He would much rather be remembered as a player than for his namesake guitars, I believe. I understand that he had some sort of a falling out with Gibson and for a long period, was never that happy with his name being associated with the guitars themselves.
In any case: Yes a great loss. A true legend of modern music.

Saw Les Paul two years ago at the Iridium jazz club in New York. He had a weekly show there and always sold out!!! Enjoyable show! I think everyone in the room had a sense they were watching a living legend.
RIP Les Paul.

Anyone know what guitar(s) he played. Les Paul, I assume, but what vintage(s)?
Saw a lovely piece in one of the obits today: "......This created plenty of volume, but also produced a vicious howl of feedback, which he attempted to reduce, first by stuffing socks into the [acoustic] guitar, and then by filling its body with plaster of Paris. Unfortunately this made the instrument so heavy as to be almost unplayable........"
