Massive difference in sound quality over the xmas break

Posted by: RICHYH on 07 January 2004

Did anyone else notice a massive difference in sound quality over the xmas break, because my system sounded really bad (subjectively) over the bank holidays and then weekend. I spoke to a friend after it who works in the local power station and he told me (in lamens terms) the "electicity stock" was run down to a quarter of the usually amount with staff off etc and back up "stock" is used of inferior quality. Thankfully now, gradually the system is getting back to its normal self.
I'm in South Wales about 3 miles from the station, did other areas have the same problem?

Got to say that my stuff was sounding great over Xmas. But I'm sure the supply must have varied accross the country.

I think on factor was the damp whether improved the earth quality significantly.

Rich -

I had the same thing in SW London. Oddly my system sounded really good during the in-between holiday weekdays, but total cack on weekends.

I remember after those power cuts in the summer there was lots of stuff about how close to the its limit our electricity supply was. Wasn't there talk of dropping the voltage to 210v or something?

What do they keep their "stock" in huge AC batteries Roll Eyes Big Grin
(I know batteries are DC).
Did'nt notice sound quality as there were too many family around to be able to listen at any where near sensible levels.

Could have been all those TVs, VCRs and PCs with their switched mode power supplies being used.
