How do I change read only files in WORD?

Posted by: Diccus62 on 29 June 2007

With my new whizzy Vista PC generally giving me very little bother except I should have got someone sensible to transfer everything over from the old PC instead of 'Brains' here trying to do it. Anyway some of my wife's word docs now seem to be in 'read only bl***y files' rather than 'yes you can edit these if you want to files'. Is it possible to retrieve them?

Thank you computer geniuses

Regards

In XP (and I guess in Vista) you need to change the attributes of the file. In XP you go to explorer (right click start > explore). Find the file (or folder) you want right click on it, click on properties and remove the read only attribute.

Or just "save as..." with a different file name usually works.
