Connections TV to AV2
Posted by: Neil Gilbert on 09 July 2006
I have a Loewe TV and Sky Digibox in the lounge. I also have a Pioneer 757 DVD/AV2/250.2/175 into a Infocus 4805 Projector in a seperate dedicated room.
How do I connect the TV to the projector and get sound and vision in the dedicated room with the ability to change programs without walking back into the lounge.
Any advice appreciated.

You must pass video, audio and control signals; there are a variety of ways to do this, but this inquriy would best be addressed by your dealer or a qualified installer.

I wish it were that simple. They had less idea than me.
I have a fair idea about how to achieve it, just wondered if there was an optimum way.

Reckon you're overthinking it.
The cost of all that cabling, control systems etc.... EEK!
Just have a 2nd sky box installed in the AV room...
TaDa!!!!
By the time you fork out on this it'll still work out cheaper than virtually anything else that offers the level of control you're after.

A second box would be an elegant solution but I cannot have freeview, poor signal, and not prepared to pay sky £10.00 per month for a box.

if you can live on the FreeSat range of programs you only have to pay for the one off fee for the box and installation.

Hmm.....
Compare that £120 per annum with the hundreds and hundreds (possibly even thousands when you get into control system programming) to cable up two rooms off one box...
Especially given that you'll be committed to the same sky channel in each room, rather than independant systems....
You seem to be loading a weapon and aiming it at your toes.
Your choice, and your money though. Good luck with that.

No point in a decent Hifi if I have no toes to tap. It clearly isn't particularly easy.
What if I forget any notion of independent control and walk back into the lounge. Still not entirely sure which connections would give me the best picture.
Any advice still appreciated.

Check out the link, it may or may not be what you're after, but you can certainly change channels from another room without buying another digi box. The gadget works by the way.

out of sky box via rgb scart ( one of em will be)
into a js technology active video buffer
one scart back out into tv
one scart back out into a js technology rgb to component converter
component lead out of converter into pj
the above will work cause ive done it
it wont be cheap , about £230 for js stuff
plus whatever depending on the quality of scarts / component
harmony 895 rf/ir remote ( allows you to use component for better picture)
will control your kit from where you sit £250+ (internet prices) i use a 885 , awsome remotes multi tasking in one touch
audio wise you just need a splitter to send 2 phonos to tv/av2
hope that helps

dont use the rf,s worst connection possible

Neil,
Please be aware that you may have to 'force' the sky box to give out RGB from the control menu.. I know I had to. Please also be aware that I have now lost TWO skyboxes due to local lightning strikes.. not the mains but the telephone line it would appear, you have been warned!

How simple can the cabling be if I choose to change stations via the lounge.
Presumably audio, phono to phono from Digibox to AV2.
The picture confuses me. My projector offers DVI, S-Video, Component and Composite. How do I link the Digibox to Projector, also bearing in mind that the Component input is currently connected to my DVD player.
Can you route via the TV as this has more choice of outputs.
Thanks
Neil
