Sky HD

Having recently installed HD box it is clear that HD transmission is far superior BUT SD seems much better through the older box and much more picture noise through the HD box. Anyone else ntoticed this?

Received wisdom is that SD from an HD box connected to the TV via a HDMI cable is lower quality than SD connected via a SCART connection - however you need to use the HDMI to get the HD to the TV.

Some people use both and have two inputs to choose from on the TV ie SCART for SD and HDMI for HD.

This will also give you the possibility for automatic format switching with the SD picture - should your TV support format switching.

Received wisdom - means - I have read on other forums <g>

Yeah but try getting a decent scart plug which also fits neatly behind your flat screen hanging on the wall..!

Is this because the TV does the upscale and not the Sky box?

Banahead - re up scaling - I guess so

The Sky HD box's ability to upscale is pretty poor but by using a video processor to trick the Sky box into passing SD material unscaled, the video processor will then scale & produce a great picture from an HD box.
