Hi,

Did Naim change the mech on the cds3 (vam1250), if you look at new manual they use only two puck now one for the 555 and the same for the rest of there cd player's (vam 1202).

I hope that they don't run out of parts for the CD555! I've just placed an order for mine. Smile Frown

they may Frown but then they may not Smile if they do it may sound better Smile or worse Frown if you hear them side by side you may hear a difference Confused but you may not, hope that helps. Smile

CD555 has VAU1254. Philips guarantees continuity. It is the best drive for CD-replay.

No. CD555 must be twice as good as the CDS3.

Laughable...

But clearly the 555 is worth its retail price or they wouldn't sell very many.

no i think the cds3 is three times as good as cd555.

Just an update, my CDS3 with the Clamp 5 is still sounding great, and I am continuing to really enjoy my music.

Love to hear more feedback from others......

All the best

I have been comparing between clamp 5 & 4 for about a week now. I think the Clamp 5 edges it. Seems to have a sharper cleaner sound with a tad more seperation between instruments and more propulsive drive to the music....maybe my Clamp 4 is on the way out?

....a complete rip off at £5 Big Grin

without doubt clamp 5 makes cds3 far more musical.....has`nt missed a beat!
Posted on: 19 August 2009 by PS
...so maybe Naim should focus on the Clamp as the real differentiator in its family of CD players and to hell with the VAM. Clamp 5 with whatever VAM in the CD555 would be a world beater Smile or maybe it wouldn't Frown then again Confused doh....

Just a quick update....without doubt, Clamp 5 is now sounding more musical than Clamp 4 now that it has now had time to burn-in Eek

...anyone else finding the same result? Cool

I prefer the original clamp on the original transport. I suspect that Naim feels the same. If the new clamp was better, they would have shipped with it when available and negated any wear issues.

It took me a time to come to a verdict. All in all I concur with js in preferring the original clamp.

In my system, Clamp 5 focusses artificially on the middle band. The original one sounds more live, more musical.

Anyway, an interesting experiment. It proves how tiny a trick can bring notable change in HiFi.

graphoman, js,
I agree wholeheartedly.
