Uniti. S/ware updates.

Posted by: Paul Stephenson on 26 August 2010

Uniti update, - all current shipping uniti products can be controlled by the n-stream app and have the digital iPod feature.

- iPhone app control: All units in the field need a FOC software update to enable iPhone app control. This update is via rs232 and ethernet connection, if you cannot do it yourself you dealer will be able to help. 500 of the these units in also require a FOC board change that can be carried out by your dealer, send us your serial number and we can tell you if you just need the software update or if you need the board changing too.

- Digital iPod: This upgrade allows you to connect an iPod to your Uniti with a USB cable rather than the n-Link cable. It improves audio quality from the iPod by using a digital rather than analogue connection. This update has to be done at Naim Audio HQ or at one of our worldwide distributor service centres. There will be a cost associated with this update that will be announced next week

Thank you very much, Mr Stephenson, for these informations.
(sometimes forums are a little "café du commerce" Smile

Please let me know if there is already a 'classic' Pc or Mac application to do the same things? (or a plan for the future?

Ok, I did the 2.0.0 update myself, when will the 3.0.0 update files be available for the end users?

I believe my Uniti is not one of the first ones because before performing the 2.0.0 update I noticed that the web interface of the Uniti showed a 2.x.x firmware number and the display on the Uniti showed a 1.x.x . BUT, how do I send you the serial number?

Anyway, thanks for the information!!!

I have just bought my uniti from a local authorized dealer and I love it. I listen to way more music now than ever

the firmware is still at 1.1.0

I had contacted him about the latest update. Will he have to go from 1.1.0 -> 2.0.0 -> latest? or can he jump from 1.1.0 -> latest?

also who do I email to check my serial # to see if I need a hardware swap as well?

thanks guys!

I emailed Naim support and got the following back. Should help clarify what version of Uniti needs what.

---------------------------------
Currently, there are two different versions of the Uniti in the field running different issues of software. These are:

BC SW 10189 just needs the FOC software upgrade to use the APP (available end of September)

BC SW 10198 will need an FOC board change to use the APP (through dealer)
To determine what s/w a Uniti is running then the following procedure is required:

From the Remote Handset:
Press the setup button (the ‘spanner’ icon)
Using the down arrow button scroll down to ‘Factory settings’
Press the OK button - This takes you to ‘system status’
Press the OK’ button again – This takes you to the ‘System Status’ list
Scroll down and you will come across BC SW at the bottom of the list.
Press the ‘List’ button to exit.

From the Front panel:
Press and hold ‘list’ button.
Using the button ‘prev’ scroll down to ‘Factory settings’
Press ‘Stop’ button (this is the OK button) - This takes you to ‘system status’
Press ‘stop’ button again – This takes you to the ‘System Status’ list
Use ‘prev’ to scroll down and you will come across BC SW at the bottom of the list.
Press and hold ‘List’ to exit.

Hello
My BC SW has many figures. It reads 120809260853.So the beginning is neither 10189 nor 10198.
How do you conclude ?

Thanks
Philippe

Not sure so I'l leave it someone from Naim to clarify. My BC SW just has the 5 digits so it may be you are looking at the wrong item in the System Status list.

Sounds like an early Uniti (how old is the unit?)

If you:

-go to the units front panel menu, then Setup->Factory Settings->System Settings page and note the units IP address

-open a web browser on a PC on the same network as the Uniti/Qute

-enter the devices IP address in the URL bar

-A web page should appear, note the details concerning the Firmware Date and Version and post here

My BC/SW is 10198.
Software is version 2.0.0.
Take it this is back to Naim or dealer for update?
Any info gratefully received!

I have noticed that the software version shown on the internal display using the "spanner" method shows 1.1.0 while the web interface shows 2.0.*

Hello,
My firmware date is 2008-09-26 and the firmware version is 2.0.2.7631.

My Uniti is not so old : I got it in April 2010.

The display on the Uniti shows version 1.1.00.

I am a little confused with all these versions.

Could you please explain the meaning of each ?

Thanks again.

Hi phk and jtkam

Can you please mail info@naimaudio.com referencing AV@naim - with a screenshot attached to the mail of the web page I asked you to browse to above.

To do this:

-open web browser and apply the units IP address as above post

-press Print Screen button (sometimes Print Scrn or Prt sc) on your keyboard

-use something like Paint (if you use Windows) to then paste the image in and save off as a jpeg.

This will tell use a bit more about what is going on here

thanks
Av

Also...jtkam:

The front panel "Version" is not the "Firmware Version" shown on the web browser - thats the DSP board version

Version = ARM Code version
Boot Version = BootLoader version
BC SW = DSP board version (identical to the last 5 digits shown under Firmware Version on web page)

Hello,

I'm a bit confused about this as well.

On my display I have:

Version: 2.0.00
Boot Version:1.2.00

When I enter the IP in my browser.

Firmware date: 2009-12-14
Firmware version: 2.1.1.10198

So according to the email that DMcNamara reveived from Naim, I have firmware version 10198 and need the FOC board change?

I bought my Uniti in June of this year. I understood that only 500 early units will need the FOC board change?

I assume the board change will not be free. It seems a bit arbitrary and unfair that some Uniti purchasers will have to pay for a board change and some not, even if the unit was purchased recently.

Am I missing something here?

Ditto. I purchased my "new" naim unit like last week and now I might be on the hook to buy the FOC board change.

If I had waited 2-3 more months, the old "new" stock would have been sold and the new "new" with the FOC board would be the SAME price..

why should early adopters be penalized for a design change?!

Obviously not Free Of Charge board change?

I too would be pretty, annoyed at having to buy a refit, to effectively a MKII but with the same name and model.

Many do say never be an early adopter though.

sorry if I came across as ignorant and mad

since I only bought it recently i wasn't happy

does FOC = free of charge?
Posted on: 08 September 2010 by Redmires
In answer to your question, yes FOC does mean free of charge. My Uniti is a recent purchase as well but has a "10198" build level. The sticky post from Paul Stephenson states ....

All units in the field need a FOC software update to enable iPhone app control. This update is via rs232 and ethernet connection, if you cannot do it yourself you dealer will be able to help. 500 of the these units in also require a FOC board change that can be carried out by your dealer

So as far as I can see, the dealer will update the board (FOC) and then upgrade to v3 (FOC). I must say though that on current evidence I suspect that more than 500 units are affected. However, in the meantime, just sit back and enjoy the music Smile

By the way, I don't use Apple gear myself but I do want the v3 upgrade for the improved UPnp functionality, as mentioned below.

On the original NaimUniti it was only really intended to be used via the front panel user interface. People did notice that it could be used with external UPnP control points, but there were a few known compliance issues.

In v3 of the codebase that is shipping in Qute and all new Unitis for the last month has had a fair bit of work in that area.

Pause - on v3 we have gone through all the UPnP server we can get our hands on and the Pause works nicely. If the server does drop the connection then we can't do anything about that, BUT while in Pause mode we actively try and keep the connection open by handling zerowindow probes.

@ Redmires

Thanks for that info. I thought FOC was some technical acronym. Non-native speakers might not come up with "free of charge" when they read that. FOC has a few different meanings...
Posted on: 08 September 2010 by graham55
In the good old days, Naim would just have quoted the relevant range of serial numbers, with an explanation of what upgrade(s) would be needed for each.

But, with the advent of 'distributed audio', everything just seems to have got so darned complicated.
Posted on: 08 September 2010 by jtktam

my info

I figured that they have a list of the serial numbers, since they can tell you if you email them

-joe
Posted on: 09 September 2010 by graham55
So, if Naim have serial numbers, why not post the numbers for all Uniti owners to see? It sure as hell would be a lot quicker and easier than requiring each person to download info and send it to Naim, or am I missing something?
