The nature of the arts

The arts are mankind's way of expressing hope for the future. Hope for the future finds its roots in a celebration of the present. That's not to say the artist finds the present perfect. It just means the artist found something to sing out about in his current circumstance.

In music, the spontaneous reaction would come as a person singing out in his own voice.

Everything else in music stems from those acts, the rest is elaboration of feeling and expectation. Emotion is everything in music, but the emotion of music is more complex than some. It embraces reflection and memory. But it always carries the germ of expectation. In other words, it always peers into the future - it has something to look forward to.

This is why I love Beethoven :-)

From melody flows all benefit of music to the human soul, and the human condition.

That is what we are striving for.

For every listener, there is some population of composers that speaks so directly to your own emotions, that it makes you ring like a gong.

And this is one of the pleasures of a forum, because we are as different as snowflakes.

Some other being can give you a taste of how they feel.

In music, some melody always bridges that communication.
