Squash ***** !!

After reading about air inflated equipment supports,it got me thinking.
My cd player is a marantz cd10, a big indutrially built machine from 10 years ago.
although it cost £1100 it sounds very hard, too bright, metalic and non analogue.
my usual source being Lp12,circus,armagedon,aro,dynavector,
cd used occasionaly for conveniance.
As an experiment I got 2 boards from my old sound-org equipment rack, and put 4 squash balls between them, and put them together like this in the rack, with my heavy cd10 on top making sure everything moved clear of the rack.
the weight of the cd10 squashed the balls to about 40% of original hight and provide damping and support for cd10
obviously helpful also as a have timber floors.
The sond was very different and i think better.warmer more open and much more analogue.
at about £2 a ball it may be worth an experiment
I would be interested to hear comments

What was the Marantz on before you tried the squash balls?

The other things people sometimes try is a semi-inflated bicycle inner-tube between two boards, which sems to work well. I used to teak my Planar 3 by resting the three feet on halves of cassette cases to give the deck more spring.

Perhaps what you had the Marantz sitting on before was wrong with in some way, and/or that the squash balls are making the sound more blurry and warmer, which makes it less tiring to listen to.
