Arbeit macht frei

What kind of people would remove such a thing?

Fortunately now recovered by the Polish authorities:-

Arbeit macht frei

If the world cannot get its future on the right track - ie. Copenhagen - at least while there are humans, then let us not forget how terrible the worst humans really were and are.

Glad to see they found it, couldn't believe that even a thief could sink that low.

There is almost certainly many people that would like it for their private museum/collection.

I too am glad it has been found and replaced, the counterpoint of this "cheery" message and the horrors performed within, this place and others, still gives me chills.

At least the early reports are that the wretched affair was not actually political in motivation.

But this is a despicable desecration IMV.

Totally agree...a shocking act.

I've always thought that sign, is one of the most shocking images of the holocaust. Just the horrific contempt of it.

It is reported that the sign was stolen to order for a British person.

The Pillory is the only place for such a person though the Poles who did the actual removal are only marginally less below contempt.

Do you have a background story to it, would like to know what kind of scum would place such an order. Did he ask for an oven as well for his private museum?

No I was talking to Frank F and Mrs Frank yelled through that the story was just being reported on the Polish TV News.

Not important enough for the modern "softly, softly" BBC, I imagine.
