Supercap a Prefix or SNAXO

If you could would you Supercap a Prefix or a SNAXO?

And has anyone got any experience on a comparison?

Conventional wisdom: the Snaxo (3/6 anyway) accesses fully 4 of the regulated rails of the Supercap, via its Burndy. The Prefix draws from just a single one, via a Snaic. The bigger bang for the buck should be to Supercap the Snaxo.

Applied knowlege: A Supercapped Snaxo is a recognizably much better version of the same Snaxo powered by a Hicap. BUT.... a Supercaped Prefix becomes the beast that is not even hinted at when powered by 52 or a Hicap.Yes it seems to improve by a far greater degree than does the Snaxo. Empirically this does not make very much sense.

Other considerations: Supercapping the Snaxo will benefit all sources, while a Supercapped Prefix addresses only the phono. If you have a CDS2 and NAT01, you may get a better overall more pleasing result by maxing out the Snaxo.

The Mike Hanson Approach: Why worry... simply put your supercap on the Snaxo, buy the 552 and feed the Prefix from that<wink>.

What I would like to know is this: can I power my Prefix from my Supercap whilst also using the latter to power my 82/250?
ATM I am using a Hicap to run the Prefix. If I was able to use the Super, not only would there be a sonic improvement but it would free up the Hi to power a crossover for my SBLs ( I have 2x250s).
I'm ubable to see for myself by unplugging the SNAIC from the Hi and plugging it into the Super without shifting things around on the rack (the prefix's SNAIC is very short).
Any suggestions gratefully received

Paul,

you would not want to do this - it would generate an earthing error.

However, it might be possible to power the 82 & the SNAXO from the same SuperCap, and this should not give an earthing error, either.

If you do this, you must make sure that the 82 & the SNAXO are not using the same regulators of the s/c. (Would need to use a voltmeter & ensure that the power pins on none of the selected sockets are commoned). The socket that powers the SNAXO would also need to be wired for signal, too (L + R, as well as 1x -ve & 2x +ve).

Please note that this is not a recommended config from Naim.

cheers, Martin

"Please note that this is not a recommended config from Naim."

...And is not possible using regular SNAIC.
