NAIM apartment dwellers

There is good and bad. The good is that I landed a much better job, the bad is that I will be moving from my house to an apartment for a year or two. What goes along with the bad is that I give up teo 20 amp dedicated power lines which will not be an option to put in. I am concerned about the noise on the building power and am considering using a Monster Cable power center - anyone tried one of these?

Next I am wondering about if the Naim speakers with their sprung bases will help to isolate the noise transmitted through the floor. Thoughts on this would be helpful as well.

Thanks a bunch

I'll second that. I had problems with a booming floor until I got soundbases.

I'll third that.

Good advice from Messrs Toon/Mekon/Toy, the soundbases will dramatically cut the energy being transferred directly from your speakers to the floor (and turn it into music), but remember that most walls/floors are transparent to bass freqencies so you will still need to go easy on the volume when the neighbours are in (unless you don't give a f*** of course Wink )

Having stayed in a flat before moving in to my current detached house, I can testify to the effectiveness of the Naim bass.

The old couple below me never had any problems or complaints with the bass or volume of my amps, turns out that both of them wore hearing aids and were slightly deaf.

This was fine until one day the lady who lived 2 floors below me commented on hearing music from above occasionaly ;-). Feeling rather embarrassed and ashamed, I never did drive the amps that much after that.

Thanks for all the help. So.. it looks like some sort of speaker bases will be needed but what about power line conditioners (the Monster Cable products). How noisy can I expect the mains to be?

How about big concrete paving slabs? Mine cost £3 for two!
