New 55x remote has arrived (along with 552)

Posted by: Graham Russell on 31 August 2007

I've just received a new 55x remote. I opened the box of my new 552 and there it was just lying there Big Grin

New amp and new remote are warming up very nicely.

I'm also due another 55x remote to go with the 555 I received a couple of months ago.

I'm very much looking forward to the 552 running in over the next few weeks.

Happy days...

Graham.

Be prepared for some rough times as the remote burns in (but it's worth it!). What batteries are you using?

Unlike other Naim products, the remotes benefit from the use of a power conditioner.

You also may want to consider getting it cryogenetically treated.

Looks cool.

I read that is comes with the 552 or CD555.

Will it work with a CDX2 and SN? ( I guess it does )

What's the price of it ( because it could be purchased as an accessory )

Is it heavy duty material ( metal ) or plastic?

I assume it uses standard IR codes so there should be no problem using it with any component. It doesn't have a Prog button so you'd also need a standard remote for programming.

It's made of metal and is pretty chunky. The buttons light up automatically when it's picked up. Very sexy.

It will be interesting to see how the batteries last. With no big LCD display to power they should last pretty well.

I have no idea if it will be available separately. A question for a dealer....

Nice one Graham - especially as I've just ordered a 552 this week. Smile

The demo 552 I have at the moment has been supplied with a Narcom remote, which I find rather cluttered. I only really ever use a few buttons for the basics, so the simplistic appearance of the new remote appeals.

Enjoy!

Looks great!

That's about the number of buttons me and my mate can handle.

Wow an open button so that the 555 lid can act as an electrical punkah wallah

Exactly the right number of buttons! Not one spare! George

The question is burning on my lips, have to let it go; How much?

And do you need to use an Allen key to replace the bateries?

And how about a special combo price for the holidays; Hi-Line and R-Com in the same gift box! Cool

Bye.

It is intended to do the necessary - easily.

Many (I) had objected to the complexity of all remotes required to de everything. This should be easy to use in the (near) dark - even without back lighting.

The NARCOM 4 is pretty easy to use too - I particularly like the central 5 buttons - which, if you have last selected "cd", allow you to adjust volume and jump tracks from one, intuitive, area. I had wanted the "previous" "next" to be so grouped on the R-com.

About $750 retail U.S.

Was there a NARCOM4 supplied in the box as well, or just the R-COM?

Hi Stoik,

The R-COM is on the current UK Naim price list at £225.

What is the price of the new R-com though? £225 is the price for the old one or am I missing something?

Hi,

Here's a picture I took recently with the buttons illuminated. - Nice Cool

For those who are interested, it weighs a hefty 367g!......one of the benefits of having a sweet shop next door I guess! Roll Eyes

The image is a little big, but at least you can scroll about and get a really good look - Hope this is of use.

Kind regards,

Peter

Beautiful remote.

Very nice, thanks Peter.

Serious question - how come it's £225?
Posted on: 01 September 2007 by Michel
Eek are you kidding???? $ 750 for an remote???

My flash is broken, and I waited for the new one, but the price must be a joke!
Posted on: 01 September 2007 by Graham Russell
Yes you need an allen key (supplied) to change the batteries. It seems that 552s and 555s will be supplied with both a standard Narcom remote and the new one. This is pretty important as the new remote doesn't have a Prog key.

It does look very sexy in the dark. I'm interested to see how battery life works out. If it's excessive I may just stick with a Narcom.

No - Tom Tom still have the Flash illustrated - wake up James. AND the other one is also out of date.

Yes it looks nice but I fail to see the logic of omitting a PROG key. What is the thinking behind this, because it escapes me, frankly.

It looks nice and chunky and I like the Naim-style glow in the dark buttons. It's also good that functionality has been pared down in the interests of simplicity. But...

Ergonomically, I am not convinced by the layout of the buttons. As Adam hinted, the configuration of the five central buttons on the new Narcom 4 is a model of good intuitive design. I think it's a great shame that this layout could not be accommodated on the new high-end remote.
