New David Sylvian is superb.

Buy the remixed Blemish it's a lot better.
This is on order along with the new Harrold Budd which has a track dedicated to Sylvain.

I´m looking forward to this one.
Can´t be bought in Sweden yet though. Delayed for some reason.
Stina Nordenstam is duetting on one track.
Looks promising.
Hoping he can top ´secrets of the beehive´.

To the Sylvian knowledgeable;
Which of his post-Japan albums are the ones to get? I’ve got two so far, Brilliant Trees which I really like and Blemish which I think is awful.

For a start off try "Everything and Nothing". It's a 2 CD compilation of his solo work and also his collaborations with Sakamoto / Fripp etc. See what bits you like and go from there.

Thanks, I'll have a listen

Blimey! I consider myself something of a David Sylvian fan but I knew nothing of Nine Horses!
Needless to say I bought a copy straightaway and have just finished listening to it.
All I can say is thank God he's moved on from the awful cul-de-sac that was Blemish!
Snow Borne Sorrow is a wonderful return to form; peculiar rhythms, quirky lyrics and that unique voice . . . . bliss!

If you liked Brilliant Trees (which for me is perhaps his best) you will almost certainly like Secrets of the Beehive and Dead Bees on a Cake - both a million miles from Blemish; lyrical withgreat melodies and musicianship.
Enjoy

Okay, just ordered from EIL: Secret of the Beehive on Japanese Vinyl and Dead Bees on a Cake on Japanese CD (together with Pere Ubu - Dub Housing). My first Japanese pressings, I'm curious.
Peter
Should really stop ordering on-line.

Hi. Finally got in.
Peter, Dougunn is correct about his choices, but you all seem to have overlooked the wonderful Gone to Earth. This was him finally being free of Japan. The album is half instrumental (ambient wallpaper and nice it is too) and the vocal tracks are superb! Repeated listening will reveal more. Make sure it is the 2CD remaster (no tracks missing).
Lyrically Nine Horses has a lot to do with the break up of his marriage to Ingrid Chavez. A good album for sure.

Agreed
Forget my recommendation of "Everything and Nothing"
Dead Bees plus Secrets of the Beehive and Gone to Earth are the definite business on the re-masters.
Thanks for the reminder............ :-)

Secrets of the Beehive and Dead Bees on a Cake arrived in the post today. I also dropped into a local 2nd hand shop and, surprise, I found ‘Gone to earth’. Secrets and Dead Bees are brilliant, thanks for the recommendations. Just now listening to Gone to Earth, which I have to hear a few more times before a final judgement.
BTW, Secrets of the Beehive is on Japanese Vinyl, now this is something else! Never heard anything like it, sound quality wise. Amazing. Complete silence in between tracks, not a single click or pop and David is standing right in front of me in the room. Puts box upgrades rather in perspective. This is going to be addictive, I’ll have to track down more Japanese vinyl now.
The Dead Bees album is a Japanese CD, sound quality is very good but I have non-Japanese CD’s which sound just as good, or better (e.g. Merz – Loveheart).

Hmmm... not so sure about this new album.
It's certainly a relief after Blemish (adeptly named don't you think?), but falls short of Gone To Earth by a very long way still for my particular taste. There is something missing that I can't put my finger on. Brilliance I think. Gone To Earth is probably one of my top 5 albums ever, and Silver Moon one of the most exquisite musical moments this old romantic fool has ever experienced. Nostalgia for a time/place that never existed, indeed!
This Nine Horses thing is a good try, but merely a sign that the next one should be something special. IMO of course
Like Jeff wassisname said the other day - no-one should be called a genius. A genius is someone like Norman Einstein.
