Or Nordost Thor maybe?

Oh Lord no, not Nordost! I don't know what it is, but every time I hear the 'Nordost effect', I turn off completely.
We played around with the older Isotek kit (Mini Sub etc) and although it was good, it still left the Naim stuff sounding a bit lifeless. Better not to use them at all I think. That said, if you don't have the option (e.g you live in an area which suffers from frequent electric storms) then you may need to consider a filter of this kind.

Yes Frank,
but have you tried the new Nordost and Isotek stuff.
They are supposed to be more compatable with Naim now.

Can anyone explain in real simple terms what an Isotek mini sub actually does and how? I have enquired about having a dedicated mains spur in my house - but the price is very off putting for me - but £500 on an Isotek is okay?

Hi there is a guy on the av section of this forum, using shunyata components, yes very expensive but are acknowledged as being one of the few that work. Pricing unfortunately appears to differ from country to country and if you wish to insert a hydra the us plugged leads are preferable. If you are interested email cablemail. Their addy is: www.cablemail.netfirms.com

FWIW i use an Isotec min sub GII in my mainy Naim system and it does a fine job. I cant tell you if its better or worse than a separate spur as i dont have one, or the prospect of one in the near future! but i can say that unlike early isotec products like the cleanline and min sub it doesnt appear to strangle dynamics. It does clean up the bass and manages to help my system compete with the washing machine and tumble drier without adverse effect. The said unit was also tested in JonR's system with similar results..

If it working for you Dave thats good news. I had a cleanline that i happily used for ages with a chord setup. When i switched to a Naim system i plugged it into the cleanline without thinking about it. It was only when i tried my system without it one day (music works demo) that i realised what i was missing. I also had a mini sub that was used in an AV setup and this too noticably squashed the dynamics when used in the Naim setup. I dont know why, but in my house it just didnt work out. I guess thats the point with these mains products, the result does depend on how bad or good your mains is in the first place.
The GII on the otherhand based on the mains in my house is an altogther different beast...

I'm using a Shunyata Hydra 8 and Python cables in my system which includes a CDS3. The difference the shunyata stuff makes is really pretty startling, much better control, cleaner, grunge free but without compromising dynamics (actually its improved dynamics).
Here in Asia you can bargain and get the stuff for half the UK price. UK prices are crazy, but i'm told you can order from abroad and import.

Hydra 8 about £1200 vs. £2000 in the UK. Python 20 amp mains cable about £500.
Python A and VX .about £470 vs. £900.
Basically the US prices. Expensive but good. See the link below
