HDX - External display resolution

Posted by: SC on 24 April 2009

Does anyone have their HDX hooked up to a HD TV via VGA ? What is the output resolution of the external display from the HDX - I can't find it anywhere ?

Finally, what's the general quality of the artwork that the HDX downloads itself ? I'm concerned this potentially will look blah on a 1080p screen - and currently there is no way of adding artwork to rips I believe...?

Cheers, Steve

I'm using a tablet pc for my HDX, not a TV and the downloaded artwork looks great, with the nice reflection on the 'southern' part. I'd have no reason to believe that it wouldn't look good on a large screen television.

I believe the VGA output will output up to 768 lines, which should be sufficient for most LCD panels (I've noticed that very few of these actually scan on the analog RGB input to 1080 lines via the VGA connection).

The base Flash movie is optimally scaled for 640 x 480, if I recall correctly.

On my Vizio 47" LCD, it looks quite good with the standard black skin.

Cheers guys...

I had a feeling anything over 768 would be a lot to hope for, so I guess it's going to have to be scaled up on the TV...

Been spoilt by the ATV interface I guess...!

I wonder what size artwork it naturally pulls down - or if it's a case of taking whatever is available on the database ?

It looks ok on a very large screen (100 and up) as long as the display is over scaning. And any way, this is a music server, IMO it is better to keep room for music than artwork. Just like David, I have reach the full capacity of mine.
