New Eels-Shootenanny

Posted by: Bruce Woodhouse on 04 June 2003

This has been on constant play in my car and at home all week.

Has more of an alt.country feel than previous and is a bit more consistent than the last couple of their albums. More jangly guitars too, one track(Numbered Days) even reminded me of Coldplay!

Lyrical preoccupations with death, pain and psychiatric care are (un)healthily present as ever but overall mood is quite mellow.

Currently my second-favourite Eels album. Beautiful Freak still had real bite and freshness when I dug it out last night.

Anyone else indulged?

I took delivery of this yesterday (CD Wow again)
hated it at first but persevering and it is beginning to grow on me.
Where are they playing in July? I have probably missed the boat on getting tickets!

Eels live at RFH

Many thanks Nick, I managed to bag one of the last remaining seats - looking forward to it and hopefully by then I will like and know the current album.

I appreciate your link, I had forgotten that you had posted earlier on the subject.

Picked it up last week on vinyl - one of my favorite records this year. Less than $14 too (less than 9 GBP, sorry!).
