Looking at the Kimber thread and previous similar items, has anyone actually, personally had thier amp explode when a non-Naim cable has been plugged in?
Not a friend or someone I knew, but you yourself?
Is it like the poodle in the microwave myth ?
I personally have mixed & matched with no explosions yet.

The closest I ever had to an amp going bang was using a 32.5/hicap/250 shut down (go silent) after only a couple of minutes playing music through a pair of Martin Logan CLS's. These speakers have a nominal 2ohm load (IIRC) and at some frequencies I think they go even lower. After a few minutes, the mute relay in the amp switched back and the amp worked just fine...

I had my 250 go silent (cut out), but that was playing RND Technologies "Ultrafilter 50 % filtered Gaetek mix" far too loud.
It did sound good before it cut, and was O.K. again in 20 minutes.
It still didn't explode.

I did had some bad experiences with Cabletalk 3.1 cable. Althoug it sounded fine on a Cyrus two some years ago, it was a complete shock when hooked up to a Nait-2.
The Nait-2 started with heavily distortion even at very low volumes. As soon as the volume became higher than 'whisper mode' it sounded like either the amp of speakers would crash!
With a 2x 2,5 mtr Tranparent "the Wave" set of cables it sounded fine.

Dont know why Alco, but I used Cable Talk 3.1 6m pair for 3year and they served me fine on my 62/140.
The only thing I heard is never use Litz type cable on Naim, example those cheap and good Cat5 cables as Naim is particular about impetance (or is it inductance?).

I can't speak for cables but the poodle in the microwave is no myth.
And I believe king's right - the guys at Naim are very particular about impetance.
