pushed-in tweeter of Kan restored !

Posted by: Alco on 12 May 2002

Hi folks,

sorry, I also mentioned it as my last reply on the "My Kan has a pushed-in tweeter" thread, but I'm so happy that I wanna shout it out! big grin

My Kan's are brought back to life and they're here to stay!

How ??

Well, first I was pretty grumpy and sad,and I was ready to put 'em back in their box and wait till next week to return the Kan's to the dealer but then....
I had this idea. Since the Hiquphon tweeter isn't broken, only pushed in, I thought it might come out with something sticky.
So I got me a small piece of this (kinda chewing gum) elastic, doublesized (very) sticky tape and carefully stick it onto the pushed-in tweeter.
Than I carefully pulled the tape back to me.
I tried that several times and just when I thought it wouldn't work, the tweeter came out.
Now it's (about 95%) as round as an eyeball again.

Next I fed my CDX with some Nils Lofgren - "Acoustic live" and also some jazzy/big band CD's with lots of trumpet,etc.....

WOW Now we're talking!
The Kan's were sounding crystal clear again, just as I rememberd 'em.

I started dancing from happiness.

Damn, I like long stories with a happy ending!
(sniff) wink

Thanx for all the support and advice guys!
I'm back in business again.

greetings,
Alco

Yes,Rico i tried it,but it didn't came out.

At this moment the Kan's tweeters are pretty much popped out, with only a few small dents left.

Do ya think the little left over dents would still harm its performance ?
or in other words:"Would they even perform better when the tweeter would be (like) new ?

Alco

Well I prefer my tweeters dented wink NOT!!!

Let me let you into a secret, Katans stomp over Kans. You can either buy a pair or buy some Katan tweeters to replace your knackered ones. If you take the tweeter option then read Ron the Mon's posts on replacing Kan tweeters with Katan tweeters.

I meant to clean the tweeters of dust and crud per Tony Lonorgan's website, not to remove the dent.

Woops, little misunderstanding here cool

I did some hoovering on the dented tweeter, but to me it was more to try if it would pop out again, but now they should also be dustfree.
