Shostakovich's Leningrad Symphony

PHEW !!!!

Just performed at the Proms by the Welsh Symphony Orchestra. What a work to play. Over 1 hour of sustained intricate playing from sotto Voce to full blaze again and again.

Hardwork for the orchestra but amazingly unleavable once it starts as a listener.

It was shown on BBC 4 and I suspect was also broadcast on radio 3. You should be able to pick up one of these in i-player if you are signing in to the BBC on a UK server ( I can't because they won't allow foriegn ineternet servers access).

For Info on BBC 4 at 7.30 tonight as described by the blurb I viewed:

Charles Hazlewood introduces Beethoven Night at the Proms, with Paul Lewis performing the exuberant First and the dramatic Fourth piano concertos, joined by conductor Jiri Belohlavek and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. There are also renditions of the composer's Egmont Overture and Creatures of Prometheus.
