HDX owners, how big is your music collection?

Just curious, for those of you that have an HDX, how much of your collection is loaded to the HDX or other music server you might have?

All my CD collection (563 discs) on HDX
326 GB space used on Hard drive
56 GB space left.

I've never counted my CDs but surely less than 25% of them are on the HDX and it's almost full. Waiting for those Naim-approved NAS drives, along with the software update.
But then again, one hesitates to rip everything, it doesn't seem worth it as long as one has a working CD player. Also the software interface and music databases are functional, but a little clunky...

I squezed in 712 cds in my hdx.

David / Klotis - How have you managed to squeeze in so many ... I've got about 420 CDs loaded so far and my maths indicate that i might max out at circa 585 CDs ... that figure has remained pretty constant i.e. the average file size per CD is circa .642GB and has been over the last couple of hundred CDs - It's not a big concern but if I could get to 700+ CDs that would obviously be great

I don't think any one has a many cd's as you do jeff. but in a perfect world you would a few nas drives and a staff of 20 to get them all transferred in about a year.
All of my "CD" collection is on my server. plus all my high res in on nas.

Hello Andrew. Dont know really. I just ripped and ripped untill it was full. Maybe classic music on cd uses about650mb and other records less. Really dont know. Still have about 600 cds to rip so i hope the new software is coming soon. Apart from that, just loves the hdx.Regards/klotis.......

It might be better to see the HDX capable of holding about 40,000 minutes of WAV files.
If CDs were about 40 minutes on average, you could put 1,000 CDs onto the HDX.
Regards,
Michel

I've ripped about 320 CD's to the HDX now. My collection is larger than that, but I don't have the need to rip every CD I own.
Maybe my musical taste has changed over the years

Michel

Not on an HDX, but I have 35,280 minutes of music in ALAC occupying 147 GB of hard disc space [out of 466 GB of usable capacity]. At least at the moment though I expect to see some new discs added before the year end.
I have no idea how many CDs this was but assuming an average of 70 minutes this would amount to 504 CDs - all but nine of them of classical music.
I actually thought I had managed to get this down to about four hundred CDs from about eight or nine hundred, but it seems I have failed, because there are a good one hundred CDs, which are parts of large sets which I only wanted to transfer parts of the whole selection!

I don't have a HDX, (SB3) but have 525 albums on a 500GB HD. (about 85% in FLAC and 15% at 320kbs)
Used so far: 119GB So,...enough space left for years to come

Ripped all my CDs because I liked the idea of archiving them out of harm and clutters way. Can always delete if required, but I like to think NAS drives will arrive well before i need to consider that option.

If I have well understant with the new Naim DAC you will can connect a normal Hard Disk (with 1TB of capacity if you want) to play music.
So you will do that:
1 - rip the CDs with HDX
2 - transfer files in a external HardDisk
3 - Play music with new DAC (connect to the HD)
right???
it is correct??

Not directly. Other than a USB stick (unknown which one will or wont work), can cannot directly connect a hard drive to the DAC.
You will connect the HD to a PC or Mac, then have the option to connect to the DAC in many different ways:
- Stream from PC to a USB Connected iPhone/Touch
- Connect PC via SPDIF
- Connect PC to Streamer of your choice then to SPDIF
- Connect PC via USB to a USB-To-SPDIF converter then to the DAC.
etc.........
I hope this helped.
