Tenacious D

Can someone please explain what they are all about?

I've no idea either. Anyone?

Tenacious D is a serious knock off band that likes to spoof the rock genre. Jack Black is an outrageous comic seen in several films most notably School of Rock where he pays a substitue teacher and teaches kids how to rock. Very funny. Don't take TD too seriously, have some fun with it.

So it's Nu-Spinal Tap? I watched the Tribute video and thought it was hilarious, but I wasn't sure that Jack Black was actually in the "band" - maybe he was just in the video.
I saw the DVD in the shop and was tempted. If it's all like that, then I'm getting it.

The CD is very, very amusing. The humour is puerile and scatalogical, but amuses the hell out of me. The backing band is composed of Dave Grohl on drums and the dust brothers. The songs are surprisingly good imho.

Clincher Willito. I'm off to get it.

Have to agree, if you don't take it seriously they really DO rock.
Jack Black actually sings, really well!
Unfortunately I can only listen to it in the car, or when my 4 yr old isn't around, since the language is not really suitable.
I also find it grates after a while, I like swearing with the best, but after a while you really can have too many 'fucks' in one song
The Xmas DVD they released gives a better insight into the early gestation of the band, it started as a TV programme in the US, I believe (HBO?).
Andy.

JB's performance in High Fidelity (which was on this Christmas in the Uk) was brilliant.
Great film (and book) too. Come on, who here didn't see themselves in that film?

Nice to know that someone like Jack Black who barely made it out of high school (major cut up in classes) had a calling and is now becoming famous and has a good career ahead of him. But why not me?
guess that's the story for many rockstars

The current trend is for lists of 100 rather than lists of 5. Soon C4 will be compiling lists of 100 best lists.

I'd never heard of them until this thread.
Good interview with Jack Black in today's Guardian.
