The last two decent record shops in Sheffield are Record Collector in Broomhill (good for jazz and rock/pop/indie) and Rare & Racy (good for *really* weird stuff). Can't think of a nearby shop with a good classical selection, which is very sad.

Lontano are you going down to Brighton, on Saturday?

I will pay my local Cobham store a visit and then next week it's time again for a Brighton round.

I used to buy LPs from Good Vibrations in Belfast years ago,until this Monday I had no idea it was still doing business. Then I read an news story in The Irish News about Record Day, featuring Phoenix Records which turns out to be Good Vibes

Belfast's most famous record shop Good Vibrations was set up in 1976 by Terri Hooley.Home of Good Vibrations Record Label, which give the World "Teenage Kicks" by The Undertones (John Peel's favourite record) and lots of other Irish bands. The shop was one of the "15 Most Famous Rock'n'Roll sites in the UK in The Independent newspaper. After been burnt out of his premises in North Street on 5 years ago. A concert by bands helped
I don't know if any one knows this but there are Limited Edition 7inch Beatles records to commemorate Record Day!

Another record store I frequent fairly regularly that has a good selection of CD's and a small selection of vinyl is People Music in Chapel Street, Guildford. It's in the town centre but tucked away down Chapel Street so just a hundred yards off the high street. Worth a visit if you are in town and worth supporting as the prices are fair.

They have live music in the shop for record Store Day as well at 11,1 and 3pm.

Well up at the crack of dawn,set off for Good Vibes Belfast,strangely quite when I arrived.So I had breakfast in a cafe opposite,read all the papers,more tea about 9 some of the shops started to open their doors,no sign of GV opening,so I asked one of the shopkeepers a few doors down why it was so quite,after all it's Record Day I thought there would be crowds of people.He said "it was earlier this morning,but they all went away!"
The shutters went at 10 I was first through the door,only to be told " We don't have any of the Limited Editions,because we did not register in time for the event" This from what used to be the finest Record store in Ireland let alone Belfast.Why did they put their shop forward if they knew in advance they were not getting any of the records.AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH

I support my record shop once a month..it's called payday..

Well, I'm back from Record Collector in Broomhill, Sheffield. A slightly disappointing trip, in that I didn't find any obscure secondhand jazz gems, although I was pleased to pick this recent DG release up for £6:

Sweet Billy Pilgrim "Future Perfect Tense" b-side feat Jen from the IT Crowd and Graham Lineham writer of father Ted 7" (EMI 1500 only). SBP will be appearing in the next series of the IT Crowd.




The 'live' session highlight for me was Sweet Billy Pilgrim. When you hear Tim Elsenburg, Anthony Bishop and Alistair Hamer harmonise, it takes your breath away. The younger crowd were there to see 'Ash', whose music I don't know but the girls liked it!
