Beck

Posted by: Andy1912 on 21 February 2010

I bought the LP below a few months back but only got round to playing it the other day. Really enjoying it. So, I was wondering if anyone would recommend any of his other material (that's available on vinyl)?

Also, I did come across two versions of Sea Changes on vinyl and I was wondering first what like and second if anyone knew if there was a substantial difference between the Geffen version (£14) and the Mobile Fidelity version (£44)??

Thanks

You might want to read this review from Michael Fremer, the god of vinyl reviewing. His top mark for sound quality which he does not use too often is 11. The MOFI got 11.

I have the MOFI on vinyl. It sounds fine but so does my regular redbook CD.

That's great guys, thanks.

Sorry Munch I forgot to post the name of the LP I had bought and it was One Foot in the Grave your final recommendation. It's rarely been off the TT this weekend Cool

Cheers

All of Becks albums have a different flavour my favorite is the Blues/Country vibed Mutations and the downbeat lost love of Sea Change. There is also the recent Latin influenced Guero and sixties throwback Modern Guilt. Also there is his first but really second album the rocky Mellow Gold (has his breakthrough track Loser on it) and then there's the second album thats actually his first an experimental Stereopathetic Soulmanure and of course there's his most famous album the Hip Hop themed Odelay and finally there's Midnight Vultures and One Foot In The Grave which I don't own and thats a crime for me being a huge Beck fan.

Possibly this.

One foot in the Grave is a brilliant album. I have only had it a few weeks. It is really earthy, folk style, mostly simple acoustic. Very enjoyable. I also have Guero and Modern Guilt, both great albums too. Have the 4LP anniversary boxed set edition of Odelay on its way to me at the moment. Really looking forward to getting it!

One Foot in the Grave has recently been re-released so should be quite easy to obtain.

Mellow Gold - unlistenable for the most part.
Midnite Vultures - just terrible. Well reviewed but just awful in my view.

I love Mutations and Odelay.
