what if you have surly children that can't be bothered to get up from the TV or put down the phone? inclement weather forget it, use your back and abs.

If you have children that 'can't be bothered to get up from the TV or put down the phone' you could always Taser them (another simple invention)- Tasering children is all the rage in the USA.

Not yet. I expect tasers will be rolled out in schools in the US soon to complement the existing metal detectors and armed security patrols. When I was at school we only had milk monitors and prefects and the local police would sometimes resort to a clip round the old lughole.

Hang on a second, I think we may have missed a fine detail here. WTF were the Police doing being called for a child whose mother couldn't get her to take a bath before bedtime.
