New Depeche Mode Al***!

I am not a fan but on vinyl this album sounds fantastic. Max 3 songs on one side gives great sound! It`s called "Playing the angel". Let the party begin. Smile

I'm a fan and really don't like the new direction they are going. It took me some time to appreciate Exciter, their last album, but as much as I try I can't listen to more than 3 songs. However the audio quality is good on the CD too.

I do like most of the songs on this album. Till now I find side A and D great ("the darkest star" one of the best). I guess that I would like Exciter too. How would you discribe the "old" versus "new" sound from Depeche Mode?

Also got the SACD with DVD. Playing an Angel is a much better album than 'Exciter', high tempo, Exciter is more like a experimental Lp. 'Dead Of Night' is one of their worth songs ever. 'Ultra' is actually quite good, it's quite dark and with great melodies. I am still listening to their 1st album, speak and spell.

Speak & Spell - Disco pop
A Broken frame - Get moody, with some great tracks, The Sun And The
Rainfall, Leave In Silence, My Secret Garden ... etc.
Contruction Time Again - With involvement of Alan Wilder, DM is getting
heavier sounding, hitting metal and get into
sampling.
Some Great Reward - Concentrate on the recording, just listen to Master &
servant, Blasphemous Rumours, If you want (by A.
Wilder).
Black Celebration - Loads of good songs, Black Celebration, Question of
Lust, It doesn't matter two, Stripped, DM try to
create as a concept album, atmospherous between songs
Also for later album, Violator, SOFAD.
Music For the Masses - Their breakthru album in term of commercial success.
Music in layers
Violator - Their best and very innovatiive, by using Kraftwerk's Francois
to mix the ablum, influence can clearly hear. World in my eyes,
combine the soulful vocal with machinery beats. Do not have to
say too much about Enjoy the Silence.
Songs Of Faith and Devotion - DM get rockier, showed their muturity, it's
a very dark record, higher love, walking in
my shoes, also have gospel influence. 'Get
right with me', with the hip pop beat and
gospel backing vocal, meaningful lyrics as
well.
Ultra - After departure of Alan, the songs are there, with the poor state
of Dave, it could be better, still a very good album. Will rate it
up there along Music for the masses and Black Celebration.
Exciter - They tried too hard to be ahead of time. One of the song, is
almost carbon copy of Sweetest perfection on violator. Also they
turned a bit like U2, especially the song like When The body
speaks. under par from their high standard, as you grow up with
Dm, you have been spoilt, they seemed to produce better album
than the last one.

The above is my opinion after listening to them from the very start. Where is Duran Duran and Human League?

cheers
Mart
