Attention Nick Drake and John Martyn fans - Check out Dan Arborise.

Posted by: J.N. on 04 October 2006

His new album 'Around in Circles' is a delight.

Beautifully hypnotic and melodic guitar playing, reminiscent of the styles of ND and JM.

Dan Arborise also has a great voice. I love this album - Nice recording too.

Details here.

John.

The strings on Be Here Now, the opening track on Ray Lamontagne's new album, is very Nick Drake-esque.

Sorry Diccus - only just caught up with your post!

Like Munch, we have been listening to it quite a lot. Unlike Munch this has not been in the car but on the Naim. Smile

At the moment we are tending only to be able to listen to acoustic music, quite late at night, quietly (kids). So there has been a bit of circular motion between Nick Drake, John Martyn, Jose Gonzalez, Dan Arborise and (most recently discovered by us - thanks to Forum recommendation) Davy Graham.

I hope the fact that Dan can exist in this lofty firmament speaks of the quality of his music!

James

I have had my promo copy on my system for sometime now but don't seem to be able to get right into it. Check out the Alexi Murdoch ep he is the closest thing to Nick Drake I have heard in years. The album which took him a couple of years to make isn't as good as the original ep.

Biddy,

Welcome to the Forum, stick around. Yeah Ron Sexsmith has been around awhile. He played Newcastle a little while back. Which of his records would you recommend?

Someone that has heard of AJ Roach, i'm in heaven. Saw him last year playing in a record shop to about 15 people he was great. His 'Dogwood Winter' album is superb. His new record is available here and I think in january in the US. AJ and Nels Andrew toured Britain recently but not near enough to me. Maybe next time

I bought the first AJ Roach on it's day of issue.
The new A J Roach is even better than the first one. But give the first Jeffrey Foucault a listen it is one of the best debuts I have heard in a long time. He has 3 discs out now
but I still think the first is the best.

There is so much good stuff out there that never gets the attention it deserves. I also have the Nels Andrews disc Diccus.

I have Ghost repeater which is pretty good. He has played in Newcastle a few times but haven't managed to catch up with him. There is a song on Ghost Repeater about Durham.

I'll have to check out AJ's new one.

Do you like Slaid Cleaves?
