From slimline to where?

Ok here goes,

My present sistem is as follows: CD3.5 + flatcap, 92 + Flatcap, 90 (all on Quadraspire) and Epos M12s, which replaced Intro II's. I considered going active with an IXO and 90, but spent my money on more 'tunes'. I had an LP12 but sold it when funds were low (What a error that was!!). However, I have just bought a replacement LP12, Ittock LVII/Cirkus and boy am I enjoying the music. I am in a position to change all my slimline boxes - my best mate is buying all but the LP12, Epos speakers and Quadraspire stands. So with a £1200 for my slimline Naim and approximately £3.5k to spend (I could possibly push to £4k) what should I go and listen to? I listend to the CDX2 and 202/200 combination at Audio Counsel, Oldham and it certainly had the WoW factor, however, as there seems to be lots of people selling their olive boxes for black, this increases my options. So, any advice welcome.

Is that £3500-£4000 plus £1200 if so, its easy...........

Used = CDX (£1500), 82 £1200, Supercap £1200, 250 £800, Total = £4700

If its £3500-4000 total, then go for just a hicap for the 82 (£400), total = £3900

Whatever you do, factor in the CDX2. It's a blinding player. Personally, I prefer the new electronics over the olive series since the presentation is a bit better balanced so the 202/200 idea is sound. You should be able to fit in the NAPSC too considering your budget (£3.5k +£1.2k) and that would round things off nicely. That said, look around at the 2nd hand stuff - an 82/hicap is awfully tempting and the 2nd hand prices are looking pretty good, but don't go below an 82 in my view. The 202 is a really good preamp and only the 82/52 really beats it in the older series.

Frank.
