AV3? Will we ever get one?

Well, it seems as though many of the digital audio/video hurdles have been addressed. So much so that many of the audiophile brands seems to be taking a crack. Maybe its been discussed, but thought it was worth checking in to see.

Does this mean upgrading and bringing up to date the existing models? Optional upgrades performed in Salisbury + up to date new models being released.
Otherwise;
AV3 in full size case
room correction
hdmi inputs
new HD codecs
updated stereo dac
Atleast 122x/202 quality preamp
internal 5 channel amp from the N-vi
audio, audio, audio, its what Naim do, keep software to a minimum. It should be just what it says it should be a multi channel PREAMPLIFIER + some extras. Why should the preamp stages be compromised ? Why should I need to buy an XS,122x or 202 to add on.
I would be happy with any Nait that had multi channel input facilities. Just add the 175 and off you go.
Zorba,I disagree, and would NOT want pre-amplification or power amplification abilities.
Just a pure audio processor with all the latest HD codecs plus video switching.

Quite. Putting any form of amplification in there means the AV2/3 is no longer a processor and would be a backwards move IMHO....The beauty of a pure processor is it's dedicated to one task, with components on board ONLY for that task (much like a separate DAC) and that it can be integrated into any existing or future system - allowing the user to choose the calibre of amplification he/she wants to drive the system with....
Of course, strictly speaking the AV2 IS a pre-amp - whether it's integrated into an existing system where it plays 2nd fiddle to the main pre, or if it's a standalone system where it performs main pre duties...
If you want 5-amps in there a-la n-Vi, it sounds like you want a one box solution....which is why the n-Vi exists (admittedly it's desperate for an upgrade and a software fix!)
Steve.

With regards to an all new AV3 I agree with your opinions as to what it should be at the level its aimed at, of course no internal amplification, I didn't make my post clear enough.
I was reading between the lines, that there may be some indication/hope of upgrading existing products and why not? The casings havn't aged at all, there are plenty of units out there and many more people that have been stopped from buying.
Yes, I would like to buy an N-vi but how do I get my bluray player to play 5/7.1 HD sound through it?

AV3 Can't wait.....
have had av2/nap150/nap150/nap175/dvd5 for tooo long and can't wait for the av3 to turn up .....
will have to purhcase a blue ray and will go the direct audio approach but would love some video switching in the av3 to enable all sky hd/blueray/ps3 etc video inputs to be sent to plasma direct from the av3.....
when when when can i get hold of one !!!!!
obviously i would rather it in the series 5 casework as all my other naim equip is ..... sorry

Richard was only giving an insight to the future, not revealing Naim's next 5-year R&D programme.......
My guess is we are looking at 2012 and £5k

Yes. Please make sure that it actually works as advertised. Learn from the n-Vi failures.

Tuan! You been hibernating??
Nothing for over a year, then three waspish posts on your first day back!!
Trust the old PS3/Sony Bravia/Bryston system is still out-performing all else!
Cheers

Just trying to think of things I'd like to see in a new AV3:
Room Correction.
Level settings discrete per input.
Discrete On / Off IR Codes. (current toggle only on AV2 makes setting up remotes a nightmare)
Much better pre-amp performance, for standalone systems.
Keep it simple, as that is one of the key benefits to me of the AV2, it focuses on what is good at.
Differentiate it from other processors.
Competitive pricing. Would be good to see it under the £3k mark.
A Beta program for early adopters. This would help get the software bedded down before general release.
Roy.

I have had an AV2 from the beginning along with a nap 250 II and nap 175. I have 5 custom monitor speakers along with a matching subwoofer. I love music first and movies second. I have tried to get the best possible stereo performance out of my system. The direct pass through has always been the key, putting the importance on the analogue out signal of the DVD/Blu Ray/CD player. I have poor base management to blend my monitors with my sub. Is it possible for a processor to pass a signal through but only filters high and lows for base management?

Hi Don,
My TV is seriously outclassed by new models (LED technology). However, the PS3, being a software base system (received updates via internet) work flawlessly. The Bryston 4B-SST is a sweet amp (not to big and not to small) which provides more than enough power to drive the Totem Model 1 Signature speakers resting on the two leaded Target Reference stands. I still have my Naim (CDX2,XPS2,NAC252 and NAP300) and the Wilson Benesch Discovery speakers. Wishing a very happy New Year to you.

Bearing in mind the apparent trouble with getting out the Dac and Ovator's on time (both very simple components) is it at all feasible that Naim will attempt an AV3 and all of that complex electronical trickery?
It seems unlikely for such a restricted market.
