Delayed bog seats

I have been waiting for the holed version of my QS Ref table to turn up since November.

They still haven't arrived despite assurances from QS at the Bristol Show that they would within a week.

I know that the massive export order to the Far East had to come first, but they are running out of excuses, imho.

I am losing the will to say anything nice about QS as things stand....

Now get real old chap, this may be a good opportunity to cancell the order.

It does improve the sound but only marginally and it looks bloody awful. Any future wife/partner will insist that it must be chucked out. Be honest, it looks like a cheap 1950's tea trolley.

If Fraim is too much......buy some Hutter.

You know I am right.

You can always pop down here for a quick listen.

I owe it to stop a fellow forum member from making a ghastly mistake.

Hmmm..worrying, I placed a special order last week (5 shelves, Linn sized cut out on top, Naim sized for rest). I'll have to chase this up, thanks Steven.

There is no accounting for taste. My missis actually prefers the bog seat q4s to Fraim, and she thought I was having a wind-up when I showed her the hutters - something about looking like pallets waiting for the fork-lift.

Something inside me says that instead of taking the piss, we should be doing what I do for a living......BOLLOCK THE SUPPLIER AND THREATEN HIM WITH ALLSORTS OF NASTY THINGS.

There is another support you should consider. It looks fantastic, has lots of spikes and 'L' shaped bits and works wonders for hi-fi and therefore music.

The name escapes me.

I am aware that the folks at QS do dip into this forum from time to time. big grin

I can't cancel the order as I have QS Ref. without the holes in, and the swap to the holed version is just that - a swap for an extra tenner per shelf.

The holes do make a difference - that I know.

Indeed, which is why people who use small components (eg. TC with his DNM/Crimsons) can't use the bog seats.

The holes reduce resonances within the shelf, which is why I want them some time this year...

Come to think of it, the end of last year would not have been unreasonable.

As for them turning up with bits missing, I have all the requisite bits, I just need the bloody shelves! mad

Here's something you can try for TC while you wait for your bog seats. Get a 1cm drill and pretend you're the Killer Driller on your soild shelves. Don't get too carried away as there might be no shelf left eek

Maybe your newly prepared Edam Reference will outperform those bog seats...

Nice idea, but QS want me to send the unholed ones back not looking like Emmental .

Shave your head, tatoo a Naim logo on one side above the ear and a Mana logo above the other. Now, ditch your existing rack(s), leave all the gear scattered about the floor along with some obscure LPs while you tutor French to young college girls... you'll forget all about Quadraspire or any other stand for that matter.

If you accept this mission we want a blow-by-blow...

This would, at the very least, gain you a collumn in HiFi News and Record Review, replacing Ken Kessler (remember the old biopic of ken in "Headroom"?)...

NB: Hi-Fi Mag Publishers might not accept accounts of blow-by-blows with nubile young french students. So post em here instead.

In the mean time, take some Mick lessons, and bollock the supplier. Do Quadraspire have a forum on which you can politely suggest that their service could do with a little improvement - then they can bollock you and make you the subject of a fatwa.

I suspect the pentangle mod has merit - time you got youself one of these...

I did the same thing at the Bristol Show - I went up to Simon of QS while he was doing a dem, and asked,

"Where are my bog seats?"

He replied that they would be with me by the next week.

A bystander who was most impressed with the dem asked,

"What are bog seats?"

I pointed wistfully at the demo stand...

I perhaps need to point out that I have ordered them via my dealer, who has done some chasing-up himself in my presence, and he informed me after the Bristol Show that he had forewarned Simon that I'd be doing some of my own chasing-up at the Show - which I did as outlined above.

I have to add that I have had similar experiences with other British hi fi manufacturers and retailers; whereas all of the US, European, Australian and New Zealand manufacturers and dealers I have communicated with have always responded promptly.

i have had the same problem -- and with british companies as well. the last was isoblue -- i simply wanted to know whether the lack of sideways rigidity was a design feature or weakness -- never got a reply. very strange...

I don't think some companies realise the damage they do by poor customer service.

My wife quite fancied their AV cabinet (at £900 it had better be good) but wanted to know whether the doors were made of safety glass. We emailled them on Sunday night, QS replied first thing next day.

think how much more satisfying it would have been to say "sorry, you took too lomg - I've bought Hutter".

And then they would realise.

Trouble is if you replied like that some tosser the other end will think 'ah well f*** um' As apposed to thinking 'well yes he has a point, we should sort our customer service out...'

IMHO that's a most curious position given the situation you see outlined above. If after reading that you are still thinking about it, just go with the leap of faith and place your order - it might at least be entertaining.

I know this must sound somewhat rude, but isn't your position akin to watching news of someone being (say) fried alive in a certain brand of minivan, hearing about others of same fate, and then announcing that you were still contemplating placing your order for same minivan? Well, barring the life-threatening scenario, of course! wink

My QS Ref took a while to come as well, although I can't use the bog-seat style shelves as my preamp, headphone amp and turntable all have problems with that design.

I'm still waiting for some decoupling rings and a tuning key, which were missing from the original order.

QS need to get their act together as it is poor service IMO. On the plus side, it's such a great stand in terms of musicality, that it was worth the wait, and more importantly, I got mine in the end big grin
