Snaps With Modern Pre's?

Posted by: Darren Cotter on 27 September 2003

Hello All,

Does a Snaps only work with a non .5 pre-amp, or is it possible to power a 32.5, 42.5, 62 or 72 via its 4 pin socket, and if so, how much better is this than the internal p/s of the Nap?

Regards,

Yes you can power these preamps with a standard Snaps, with the link plug fitted on the preamp.
But you can mod the last generation of Snaps to fit a 5 pin socket. This mod is called "dual railling", it then becomes a "small Hicap" and the performance is enhanced.

Hello,

Thanks for the reply Emmanuel. Any idea of at what serial number a Snaps can be dual-railed?

Regards,

Darren

All can, AFAIK.

As Tim has said, it's quite simple to peek inside (with the power off!). In fact simply reading the rear panel will show if there's a 24V feed to two of the 4 pin DIN sockets.
