HDX 1GB drive backup function
Posted by: Skysector on 18 November 2010
Dear all,
the HDX with two drives has a built in backup function for having the data on both drives. In case i will switch to the one disk one GB drive solution what will happen to this backup function?. Best for me would be the possibility to have a "real" backup function that allows me to use my already existing NAS as the backupsystem.

First, I believe it's not possible to convert an HDX with two harddrives to the single 1 TB drive. Second: regarding the backup function, I believe that you've already answered your own question. You have to take care of a backup yourself on e.g. a NAS.
Since you already have a NAS, it would be better to let your HDX be converted to the SSD version IMO.

As above. The 1TB version makes NAS necessary for back up, as the SSD makes NAS necessary for storage, playback and back up. I welcome the moves towards the option getting music and/or a back up moved out of the HDX.

I am still struggling with making a backup to my nas. i am using acronis true image home 2011. I created a backup directory for my hdx on the nas. I added my naim hdx drive as mentioned in the user manual to my windows explorer. By clicking on this share i got the message " no access". When using the backup software i receive the message "...failed". What do i have to do to get access for backing up my hdx?

The Music Store MUSIC sharepoint on the HDX is read-only; if your backup utility requires write access to the volumes it services, you're out of luck.

Any recommendation regarding backup software (maybe freeware) which will not require write access?
Even if a directory is read-only i should be able to see the files - or am i wrong?
