Trilok Gurtu.

Any fans here? Went to see him at the Camden Jazz Cafe last Wed, what a wonderful performer, so gifted and so musical. I have many of his albums but never seen him live so it was a treat.

regards,
Dev

Trilok is great. Love his own music, and with both Oregon and John McLaughlin.

I especially love the track on Usfret where he added harmonies to his mother's singing. Since most Indian singing has static harmony, it's so beautiful to hear how Western harmonies can "colorize" a solo melody.

Best,
Fred

"Mother Tongues" with McLaughlin is MY favorite, and shows his full talent.

Do you mean the track on Live at the Royal Festival Hall? One of the most amazing drum/percussion performances I've ever heard.

Best,
Fred

Hi Dev,

Hve you tried the extremely unlikely combination or Swiss pop trance supremeo Robert Miles and Trilok.

It's very good. some jazzy chill, some not - especially played loud enough to make those baggy jeans of yours flap.

There're samples here.

Don't forget his great work with Antonio Forcione which I had the priviledge to record. Smile

Peter

And 'African Fantasy' is a good solo album.
