I got introduced to music by Cat Power a little while ago - "You are Free" - quite a beautiful melodic and haunting voice and sound and have just ordered another cd "Covers". Does anybody know much about her\the band?

I know very little about apart from tha fact that her real name is Chan Marshall. "You Are Free" is just about the pick of the albums I've heard although "The Covers Record" and "Moon Pix" are both also excellent. As you like "You are Free" I suspect you'd be very happy with either of those.
Not heard her earlier stuff.

I have 'What would the community think' as well. It is bleaker than 'you are free', but still engrossing.

"You Are Free" is indeed the pick, as Matthew mentioned.
I've heard that Marshall's live performances are excellent, should she tour through your neighborhood.

Although annoyingly the London Union Chapel gig (around the corner from my flat) is sold out.
