Beatles MFSL Vinyl Box Set

Posted by: Rob Lim on 10 January 2008

Came across this set and the owner is asking US$800 for it.

Condition good but the asking price Confused

Sonically, how does it sound compared to what's on the market?

I believe the most highly regarded Beatles pressings would be original British pressings on Parlaphone and later Apple. When I have heard the MSFL pressings, the mixes seemed quite different than those I was familiar with, so I don't believe they are completely natural. Still, if you love this music, you might enjoy the box set.

Good luck!

The ones I have from MFSL sounds very good to my ears, out of five different Sgt Pepper's my MFSL is the best sounding (and yes, I have two original 1967 Brittish pressings). I don't have a clue to if they are "natural" or not as I haven't had the possibility to compare them to the master tapes! MFSL's JVC super vinyl pressings of those days are dead silent most of the times (the ones they do today are much worse), an added bonus.

Me want them to!

Hi
I don't usually give black and white advice but buy it now!!!! $800 is cheap for the complete MFSL set, each LP sells for between 50-150 GBP; I paid over 50 GBP for Abbey Road and, to my ears, it sounds much better - more detailed, natural, dynamic etc - than my first pressing. I also have Revolver and Rubber Soul and gosh, they sound great. On ebay.com the complete set sometimes sells for over $1200, and with the strong pound now's the time to buy. I don't think you'd regret it.
Best wishes.
