Rolling stones and listenable cd's

Posted by: mongo on 08 November 2009

Hi. Having recently re-discovered the Stones i find that the better system i'm using has brutally destroyed my delusion that i was listening to decent recordings.

Whilst some are worse than others, even the best are barely adequate. Does any one have any info on quality re-issues?

I seem to recall that there was re-issue planned for sacd and wondered if this ever happened? And, of course if the cd layer was any good. Thanks, Paul.

get forty licks double cd....its got everything you would want by the stones and sounds rather good to boot.

I have Aftermath on a Japanese CD - it is crystal clear and very detailed - I prefer the original vinyl.

I also have the SACD of Satanic Majesty's though only ever heard the rather muddy CD layer.

On the other hand The London Singles triple-CD is truly excellent and shows what can be done when record companies make the effort.

The Japanese first and second CD pressings have outstanding sound quality and are not too expensive. I re-discovered how good the Stones could sound through them.

This is the Japanese pressing I have - it's good, but sometimes sounds a bit clinical to me. Worth checking out though.
