Not The Smiths

I know they're one of the most influential British bands of all time.
I know they're from the North, and so am I.
I know they sing songs of gritty, unusual, affecting realism.
I know they've impacted the lives of many, and in positive ways.
I know that I'm of that age, the age where they dominated my 6th form turntable.
I know I should like them.

Aw come on guys - give them another chance - there are some truly great & fresh sounding musical licks to be found. They aren't my favourite, but equally they can be brilliant.

They are a hard listen for me as well. I am a huge Johnny Marr fan, one of my fav. guitar players, but Moreprissy grates on me. Lyrics and delivery are just a bit too dear and contrived melancholic. Musically though I find alot of tremendous moments within.

I have to say, and I started the 'The Smiths' thread elsewhere, that I can empathise with some of the comments. When they were out i never really liked them, probably due to being rather narrowminded about music ( I was a young thrash metal head) but mostly struggled with Mozza's voice.
I persevered mainly due to a mate being into them, and have to say that his voice is an aquired taste, but i really do love their music now. They represented the thoroughly miserable time that many had under the era of Thatcherism.
Keep trying is all i say......

Could never see what the big thing was about them. Loved Hand in Glove but not much else.
