I had a pair of NS1000m's many years ago and would have another pair today if I could find some at that price.
Never did hear them with Naim amps, some say there to fierce but what the f**k, pop on a couple of LP's, turn the wick up and hey....instant fix!!....Enjoy.

its uncany how good some old speakers sound when good modern equipment is used with them most of the problems with the ns 1000 were that you couldhear how badsome of the old gear was 42.5 72 etc like a dentists drill! the new gear is fantastic throgh them!

I've used a pair of NS1000m on various bits of kit for coming up to 20 years. Started out with a big Yamaha amp went on to Audiolab stuff and even tried Quad along the way. Currently using CDX/XPS 82 250. I'd say the Yamaha will probably outlast the electronics. To my ears these are about as good as it gets. Truly superb speakers and believe me I've listened to a few. I currently have Harbeth HL P3ES2 in another system and they are good if space is tight.

I remember hearing NS1000s in a mid-fi shop years ago. I thought they were great but whenever I mentioned them to fellow hi-fi enthusiasts there was always an awkward silence. I'm not usually unduly influenced by others but eventually I convinced myself that I must have been mistaken...

Talking of old speakers I am currently using a pair of Kef104ab's with 72/135's and they sound superb. They have a rich, detailed sound and are particularly good on female vocals.

I've got a 26 year old pair of Kef Cantata's which are being driven by an Aro'd lp12/72/hi/180. Fantastic sound, especially when you replace the castors with spikes and pop them onto a couple of paving stones. They were about to be skipped because one of the midrange drivers was duff, turned out to be a dry joint on the crossover. Bargain!!!
Before them i had some Heybrook HB3's from around 1980, not in the same class as the Kef but also great sound. Also have heard an amazing pair of Kef 105/2's which have had a few mods done. Some great old speakers out there.
Oh, nearly forgot, had a pair of Kef Concerto from 1973 as well.

Here in Sweden NS 1000 is well known as they where choosen by the Swedish Radio in the late 1970:s. They bought several hundreds, and I think they still uses them. There have been some angry toungs through the years hinting that the Swedish Radio choose them because of the price, not the performance. But I don't knew... Can't remember ever hearing them.
My LS3/5a:s will be 25 this september.

Probably an uprated version of the B139 in the Briks. The Midrange in my Cantata is a B110, but it's a 150 watt version of the one that's in the Concerto.

the old allison range of speakers one's three's and sixes work incredibly well with naim gear and you need to spend SL2 cash to significantly better them

Funny you should mention Allison Speakers. Have a pair of old Allison Twos. Debating whether or not to replace some of the drivers (foam mounts are all decaying, cost of about $1000 US to replace all the drivers (6 per speaker)) and/or to redo the crossover components. Model Ones are still manufactured (start at $3500US). Has anyone heard the current range of speakers from Allison? Check the website.
