Live al***s

Posted by: maze on 12 October 2010

It ocurred to me recently that a vast proportion of my CD's are live recordings.
I admit to not liking the sound of many studio recorded albums,to me they sound flat/articial and just not natural.
I know live takes get messed with too, however I feel you do get more of a feel for the band or artistwith a live set.Aalso you get a feel how the good the artist is musicaly. To me live tracks just offer more excitment. I would say a good 60% to 70% of my cd's/records are live albums.
Am I alone in this?
Just got a copy of Stanley Clarke live at the Greek, well recorded set.

One of the greatest live albums of all time. Although Jefferson Airplane was wildly inconsistent as a live band, when they were on they were FULL ON, and they never sounded better than this.

I think the live CDs probably outnumber the studio recordings now. I don't know how many versions of Let It Roll I have, but each is individual, and they all make me want to dance!

ooooo like a smooth stretch of highway
oooo like a cool summer breeze
if my motor's running right
we might lose control tonight
got the shape I love to squeeze
looks that bring me to my knees
oh pleeeease let it roll tonight

Think I'll go and stick it on now Smile

Cheers
John

Not all boots ... Waiting for Columbus is another of the all-time great live albums!

What a good choice

I was entertaining a friend the other night with vinyl and pulled out The Band's Rock of Ages. It was a New Years show and Garth had an extended track on organ. Vern enjoyed trying to understand all the musical influences and timeline in his head. I hadn't heard it in a long time.

This was on the turntable just now and sounds pretty great, both performance and sound quality
