Mark Soskin: One Hopeful Day

Never heard of this guy until I saw a positive review for this album in HiFi+.
This is a very well recorded and produced CD - which is always welcome.
We are talking Jazz here. I enjoy Jazz, but edge towards Oscar Peterson playing West Side Story. I like a melody that I know that is then deconstructed. This album goes some way towards this with music by Lerner/Lowe, Rodgers and Redding.
My issue is with original Jazz, although I can hear the musicianship it really leaves me stone cold - I WANT A TUNE. Tracks by Corea and Monk don't ring my bell. About half the album are original compositions by Soskin, and these might sink in.
I'm really enjoying a couple of the tracks - and if the rest of the album was along the lines of the first track, On the Street Where you Live, I would play this a LOT. As it is? Maybe - I'll at least give it a few outings and see if it grows.
